Don’t do it Daisy! Or maybe just do it slowly …

12 Jun

Daisy, I admire your passion and dedication. I should take a leaf out of your book and stop my addiction for these magic beans.

I have been caffeine-free in the past, and it was so wonderful to experience what life was like without severe ominous cravings for java. Being pregnant also helped tame the beast: overnight I was converted into a virtuous chai-latte sipping wanker sophisticate.

After giving birth I was sure I no longer needed caffeine. Oh yes, I was most definitely cured. I would never again fall victim to those mystical aromas that once tempted me. Well unfortunately that didn’t last long. As soon as I faced my first casting job for a television commercial post-baby  my righteous moment was over. Gone in a flash … there’s nothing like being a freelancing sleep-deprived mum to make you guzzle down plunger after plunger of caffeine.

Daisy, I must warn you that cutting out caffeine cold turkey will shock your body. You may experience symptoms such as headaches, sleepiness, irritability, lethargy, constipation, depression, muscle pain and stiffness, lack of concentration, insomnia, and flu-like symptoms. These can last for up to a week and make any mum’s life a nightmare.

I urge you to wean off the juice slowly to avoid these wicked penalties! If you normally drink 3 cups then change to just 2 for a week. Substitute a coffee with tea. Ease yourself into it.

Caffeine withdrawal is a bitch.
