What the Glow Bug is listening to: Rock-A-Bye Your Bear

28 Jul

This week the Glowbug features Rock A Bye Your Bear by legendary Australian children’s pop group The Wiggles.

Miss Glow Bug says:

I am distraught: The Wiggles recently announced their retirement. I am begging mum and dad to buy tickets to their live in farewell tour. Pleeeeeeeeeese pleeeeeeeeese!

I adore the Wiggles,  even though mum selfishly tried to ban them. Mama you can’t deny the Wiggles. All you toddlers out there: this track  is a must-have for any party playlist.

I had an awkward experience recently at a 6-year-old’s birthday party. The conversation hit a lull, the popcorn bowl was empty and his mum was caught between whipping up the onion dip and carrot sticks. The 4-year-olds were aggravated by the 2-year-olds’ lack of savoir faire; all they wanted was cake – but it wasn’t ready!  The situation was dire.

Fortunately I snuck into my mum’s handbag and pulled out her iPhone: out blasted Rock A Bye Your Bear… Just like in a real life musical, everyone stopped what they were doing and broke into dance – even the grandad was getting down and dirty,  rocking his bear to sleep. Et voila, the party was saved!

Thank you Wiggles for entertaining me since even before I was born. I do want to make a special mention that while Rock A Bye Your Bear is a classic I do have a soft spot for your cover of Monkey Man - it’s definitely a close second… and even though she will never admit it I know my mum kinda likes it too as she is a fan of Kylie.

Rock-A-Bye Your Bear – Lyrics

Everybody clap,
(Clap! Clap! Clap! )
Everybody sing,
La la la la la!
Bow to your partner,
Then you turn around
YIPEE!
Hands in the air,
Rock-a-bye your bear,
Bear’s now asleep,
Shh! Shh! Shh!
Bear’s now asleep,
Shh! Shh! Shh!

Everybody clap,
(Clap! Clap! Clap! )
Everybody sing,
La la la la la!
Bow to your partner,
Then you turn around
YIPEE!
Hands in the air,
Rock-a-bye your bear,
Bear’s now asleep,
Shh! Shh! Shh!
Bear’s now asleep,
Shh! Shh! Shh!
