The ultimate test of your style: pulling off a souvenir t-shirt.
As I’ve alluded to, I can sometimes be a little wary of irony in fashion. One can take it too far.
But one can also wear something in the ‘My Grandma went to Eketahuna and all I got was this lousy tshirt’ genre and thereby make a subtle statement that is a little bit irony, a little bit desperately true.
This tshirt says ‘New Zealand. Take your Mum. Ha.’ (the irony)
It also says ‘New Zealand! I miss youuuuuu!’ (the truth)
The finishing touch: a little unglazed pendant with an owl on it (I LOVE owls. Straightforwardly). Hungarian-made, to reassure those I meet that I don’t live in a totally nostalgia-tinged ‘Wish I was there’ kind of a world.
The tshirt was from Aunty Lisa on the occasion of my first birthday. Thank you Aunty!!
