Truly, I did. Until now I’ve been sleeping through but it was mothersleep, you know? One eye open, one ear cocked – in the manner of a faithful old family cocker spaniel (did that breed just occur to me because it also includes the word ‘cock’? he heh, cock).
Tonight, the test: Mr A, the project leader up until now, is going away to Germany tonight, to find us a new car. (Don’t ask.)
So it’ll just be me and Maja tonight: like it always was. What will happen? Anyone’s guess. Since we night-weaned, she has not been sleeping through – she’s been waking like she always has, a couple of times, and Mr A’s been bringing her from the cot into the big bed (the girls’ bed. My erstwhile bed). I’m not sure whether my method will be the same, or whether she’d find that maddening. So close to the mook, and yet so far away…
I think my plan will be to keep her in her O.L.B* at all costs. Will I succeed? Or will she pick tonight of all blessed nights to sleep through on her own steam? Will Mr A bring us back a Volvo station wagon, that beautiful cliche of a sturdy family car? Perhaps with a cocker spaniel puppy gambolling adorably around in the backseat, just to surprise us, and to complete the picture (and to render my references in this rambling post perfectly circular?)
Stay tooned!
Daisy
*own little bed, of course.
